Compare Medigap Plans

If you would like to get a good deal on your health insurance, then you may want to compare Medigap plans. These are varied medical insurance policies that are designed to cover those medical expenses you are not going to get coverage for from the Original Medicare plan.

Comparing the 10 different plans gives you an idea as to which them will cover you best and helps you to save money with some relevant medical benefits. While there are some of these Medigap plans that stick out as being higher value than others, each senior needs to consider what their healthcare needs are and what kind of insurance they would benefit from. What is ideal for one senior may not be a good choice for another, and we can help you try to compare these plans to find a suitable one for where you are at in life.

Who Is Medigap for?

Compare Medigap Plans

First of all, we want to look in general at Medigap plans and what it takes to enroll in one of them. This can help you decide if Medigap may be right for you or not.

Medigap plans are available to anyone who is 65 years or older. If you enroll at age 65, within the seven-month window called Open Enrollment, then you are guaranteed to get the Medigap plan of your choice. Enrolling later on can limit your options, as insurance companies then have the option to reject your application. They can turn you down because you look like too much of a risk to them.

Medigap is good for any senior who struggles to pay for their current healthcare costs or who fears how much they might have to pay in their future without ample health insurance coverage. The medical benefits that Medigap provides can limit how much people have to pay out of pocket and can help them to feel better about their visits to the doctor’s office or to the hospital. They may not have to worry that they will be required to pay very much and may be more willing to get the care they need when they need it.

Medigap plans will conflict with Medicare Advantage plans as well as with most employer-based and union-based health insurance plans. These conflict due to their similarities in medical benefits. If they share any of the same coverage, then they will be overlapping, and that causes a conflict with Medigap coverage. If you have questions about eligibility, enrollment or coverage conflicts with Medigap plans, then please give us a call. We can help you make sense of these plans and assist you in choosing suitable coverage.

Medigap Plans to Consider

While there are 10 different Supplements plans that you could enroll in, we want to focus on a few of the more popular ones. These tend to offer some of the best value for your money or just provide better coverage than the other options.

Plan F is the highest coverage Medigap plan that you could enroll in. If you want tons of medical benefits, then this is the plan for you, but you may balk at the price point. If you use our site and compare some quotes, you will see that Plan F is the most expensive Medigap plan, and it doesn’t always justify its price.

Plan F will cover you for foreign travel exchange, up to 80% each time you need to be transported outside the United States for an emergency procedure. Plan F also covers you for some nursing care and hospice care costs. It will cover all of the annual deductibles for you and all your copays as well that you have to pay for each visit to the doctor’s office or to the hospital. Plan F also covers excess charges for when you go outside of Medicare’s network for doctor visits. It can even cover the leftover blood costs that Original Medicare does not cover, which are three pints of blood a year.

The important thing to know about Medigap Plan F is that it is not something that all seniors can enroll in. Plan F is only being made available to those seniors who were Medicare subscribers by the time January 1st, 2020 rolled around. If you are signing up later than that for Medicare for the first time, then you have to choose a different Medigap plan- one that is not delisted.

Medicare Supplement Plan G is the top-selling Supplement right now. This Medigap plan covers you for a lot of supplemental medical benefits, but not quite all of them. It offers coverage for nursing care, hospice care, deductibles, copayments, and blood usage. It also covers you for foreign travel exchange costs and excess charges, but does not cover the single Medicare Part B deductible of $198. When you compare Medigap plans, you will see this is the one difference between Plan F and Plan G. That can make Plan G the better, more competitively priced choice. Because it does not cover what many experts consider to be an unnecessary medical benefit, Plan G is often cited as a more economical option than the more expensive Plan F.

You should also consider Plan N. This Medigap plan may be able to save you more money than the others. What we like about it is the usually low price and the guaranteed high coverage. As with all Medigap plans, the benefits are decided by Medicare and cannot be altered by the insurance companies that sell them. Plan N can cover the cost of all Medicare Part A copayments and the annual deductible. It also helps you with hospice care and nursing care, as well as your blood usage for the year. Plan N covers the foreign travel exchange benefit and some of the Part B copays. This coverage doesn’t leave you a whole lot to pay for out of pocket, mostly just Part B costs that are not significant or common, in most cases.

We urge your compare these different plans and consider them as you try to make the right choice for your coverage. You might not be sure which one will be best for you, but using our site to compare some prices can help you to make a better decision.
