These are the ones that most people will be signing up for in 2021 and that will save them the most money.

Which Medigap Plans in 2021 offer the Best Coverage?
With 9 different plans to choose from for new beneficiaries, the most important thing to remember is that each company offers identical coverage within each plan letter.
This means that a Plan G from say, Mutual of Omaha, is identical to Plan G from Aetna.

- Part B Medicare coinsurance
- The First three pints of blood in transfusions
- Hospice care under Part A including copayments and coinsurance

What are the Top Medicare Supplement Plans for 2021?
Those who are new to Medicare on or after January 1st of 2020 may not enroll in a Medigap Plan F. This plan offers 100% coverage of the gaps, however it’s very expensive.
The best Medicare supplement plans in 2021 for nearly everyone, including those eligible for Medicare prior to January 1st of 2020 are:
- Medicare Plan G will by far be the most popular Medigap plan for 2021.It offers 100% coverage just like Plan F, after you pay the annual Medicare Part B deductible yourself each year.
- Medicare Plan N offers great coverage that is similar to Plan G but has lower monthly premiums. With Plan N you still must pay the annual Part B deductible, however afterward you might have a small co-payment per doctor’s visit. This will never be more than $20 however.
- Medicare Plan D is just like Plan G where you just have the Medicare part B deductible to pay each year. The only other difference is with Medigap Plan D it does not cover what are called Medicare Part B excess charges. This is when doctors can charge up to 15% extra if they do not accept Medicare Assignment. Most doctors do in fact accept assignment, so just ask yours if they do.

Best Medicare Supplement Plans 2021
The list of available Supplement plans for 2021 is ten plans long, and each of those has its own set of coverage.
Many of the plans aren’t worth enrolling in as they offer less coverage and cost nearly the same as the most popular plans.
Therefore we’ll discuss the plans that you are most likely to enroll in. These offer great coverage, are the most popular, and have relatively low premiums each month.
These are the ones that most people will be signing up for in 2021 and that will save them the most money.
Medicare Plan G
This is the current top plan and the one that more people will choose in 2021 than any other.
And there is good reason for that. Medicare Supplement Plan G is practically brimming with coverage for healthcare expenses.
It can cover the majority of the supplemental expenses and services for you, making it a high coverage plan.
It’s actually the highest coverage of the available Supplement plans, so if you want a lot of coverage, then this is the plan for you.
Medicare Plan G pays 100% of the gaps in Medicare, except for the annual Part B deductible. In 2020 this amount is $198 and will go up slightly in 2021.
This deductible is paid once per year, and it resets each January. After you meet the deductible, you will get 100% of the rest of the gaps paid with Plan G for the rest of the year!
Medicare Plan N
When Plan G is too much coverage for you or simply costs too much, then you should consider Plan N instead.
It covers a bit less, and we want to compare these two plans for you so that you can see how they stack up.
It is fair to say that Medicare Supplement Plan N is going to cover you for all the same stuff as Plan G, except for a few minor expenses.
Plan N does not cover you for the Medicare Part B excess charges, and that’s not usually a problem, since that is an uncommon expense.
It also does not cover some of the smaller copayments for Medicare Part B.
You will have to pay the copayments of $20 and $50 respectively for each visit to the doctor’s office or the emergency room.
All the other supplemental items listed under Plan G are covered by Plan N, so the two are quite similar.
Plan N is simply cheaper and slightly lower coverage.
Medicare Supplement Plan F
This is not a Supplement plan that is available anymore.
It isn’t being sold to the general public, and yet some people are still going to be covered by Plan F in 2021.
It’s an odd plan in that it was discontinued but anyone who had it and didn’t cancel it could actually renew it for the next year.
What this means for most people is that they cannot sign up for Plan F if they don’t sign up for it already.
What this means for those who have Plan F is that they can continue to receive its coverage, but they need to be prepared for serious price hikes.
With no new subscribers joining the plan, it will fall to the current subscribers to absorb all the cost of this plan. That means major price increases in a short amount of time.
Plan F covers all supplemental expenses.
You can basically just look at Plan G’s list and add the Medicare Part B deductible onto that.
This makes it a full coverage plan, but most people don’t need to have the Part B deductible covered for them.
That deductible only costs $185 a year, as of right now.
That price could change slightly in 2021, but it is still probably not enough to justify going with Plan F over Plan G or Plan N.
The Top Medicare Supplement Companies

Medicare Supplements are all sold by private insurance providers. These are companies that have their own rates and their own lineups.

Medicare Advantage Plans 2021
There will be seniors for whom Medicare Supplements are simply not a good fit.
Perhaps they cost too much or cover the wrong kinds of medical expenses to meet a particular person’s needs.
If that is the case, Medicare Advantage plans in 2021 can be a good alternative.
These kinds of plans offer extensive coverage that takes care of all the Original Medicare coverage, as well as cover for emergency services, urgently needed services and sometimes prescription drugs and checkups.
Medicare Advantage plans are sold by many of the same insurance companies that sell Medicare Supplements.
The Advantage plans do not have a standard price either, so the prices will vary based on who is selling the plan, how much the plan covers and where the plan is being sold.
Medicare Advantage plans, unlike Supplements, are limited to the network of the insurance company that sells them.
Going outside of the network for healthcare services means that you will not be fully covered by your insurer and your plan.
Medicare Supplement Cost
Medicare Supplements, or any kind of medical insurance plan, will be sold at different prices.
How do you know if you are getting a good price or if you are overpaying for coverage that you could get elsewhere for cheaper?
This is especially important to ask with Supplement plans, since they all have standardized coverage.
It makes sense to go for the cheapest version of the plan you can find, so long as the insurance company that sells them is offering you some decent benefits.
In order to find out who has the cheapest prices, you would have to source quotes from all of the providers that are active in your area.
